Open Source Commercial concept - GET PAID TO DEVELOP!
Contributing developers should be paid to maintian and perform their work!My goal is to create a fantastic piece of software on a minimalist level and have various "plugins" which can be written by 3rd party developers. These plugins will then be supported by PAID DEVELOPERS as OFFICIAL MiniBill modules. These modules then can be sold on the MiniBill web site for whatever price the module vendor deems fit. A certain percentage goes towards maintaining MiniBill, and the rest goes to the module vendor. It's probably a 50/50 split - MiniBill / Developer.
What I am hoping to accomplish with this is have hundreds of modules which then can be purchased and downloaded as necessary and implemented to create a completely custom MiniBill installation for each user.
The minimal core of MiniBill remains free, and will always be free to download as long as there is contribution. While the core is usable for billing and other basic function, the modules are then there for those who want to soup it up and enhance its capability.
The reason I need to charge for the modules is so that I can pay the developers who wrote them to support it and incentivise them to make upgrades and maintain their modules .. Thus keeping MiniBill alive. I really want to create a huge whirlwind with it and take free / open source software to the next level of open contribution and modular support.
Once MiniBill moves to a beta, it will likely be on a 4 week release cycle, then once it is Final updates will be posted on a 3 month release cycle.
Together, we will revolutionize software 1 day at a time,
